Darwin and the Northern Territory
The Northern
Territory is a vast land mass of extremes, stretching from the top of Australia
down to its very heart.
In its heart sits the majestic Ayers Rock or Uluru
as it is known to the Aboriginals. The Rock is one of Australia’s most famous
icons and really is a sight to behold, if you have the chance to get there, then
you go for it! Merilyn Crean did and loved it, below
she tells us why….
If you are looking for an
extraordinary holiday experience then I can’t recommend the Northern Territory
enough, it is a state filled with stunning landscapes, friendly people, amazing
wildlife and an overriding feeling of having ‘space’.
I’ve heard people say that the
Outback scenery is boring and monotonous but it certainly isn’t
- especially when our Tour Director explained the history of what we were seeing
and imparted us with his wide knowledge of the area.
The Yellow Waters
Billabong was my first time we hit water. It is teeming with birds of
all colours, crocodiles who slowly slid out of sight and magnificent bright pink
flowering lily pods as far as the eye could see - our cameras were very busy.
The Katherine Gorge
meant more wonderful photo opportunities; it was gorgeous as was the Ord River
and Dam. We were lucky enough to be travelling in September which is a great
time for the extraordinary bird life but also because of the amazing sunsets -
caused by the bush fires these offer any budding photographer some terrific
shots.
